Top News This Week
This will be the last installment of This Week In Video Games for 2021, happy holidays everyone!
- Last week the gaming community pushed back on Ubisoft’s implementation of NFTs, and this week they did the same with S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2’s. Initially, both parties intended to allow players to own a piece of the game through either cosmetics or “metahumans”, but the gaming community as a whole has spoken out against these practices.
- A Splinter Sell Remake is now in development.
- Halo Infinite had some much-needed playlist updates this week, with the title getting a few more playlists for Team Slayer, Free-For-All, SWAT, and Fiesta.
- Final Fantasy 14 is still facing congestion issues. As a result, Square Enix is suspending physical and digital sales, as well as suspending the creation of free trial accounts. They are also compensating current subscribers with an additional 14 days of game time, making for 21 days total
New Release Highlights – January 2022
New releases are very scarce for the upcoming months, and the sources I use don’t give exact dates for anything, so rather than be wrong I thought I might just remind people of what’s to come in January of 2022. PC will be getting it’s fair share of titles with both Monster Hunter Rise and God of War hitting in the first half of the month, followed swiftly by Rainbow Six Extraction on all platforms. The later half of the month we see the Uncharted Legacy of Thieves collection hit PS5 and Pokemon Legends Arceus hit the Switch. It’ll be a busy month!
What has Christian been playing this week?
Warframe
The next big story quest, The New War, is now out for Warframe and while I am enjoying it, I worry that nothing will change after completion of it. Every other story quest introduced or expanded some gameplay element of the game and it feels like they’re going to do something similar, except there are some huge changes implied with this quest and I feel like they won’t keep them.
Phantom Abyss
This has gotten quite a few updates including new rooms and new traps and I must say it is way harder than when it first came out, it’s actually kind of refreshing. This is a platformer roguelike where only one person can obtain the relic and the end of a randomly generated temple. The ghosts of the players before you will be replayed alongside your run and potentially provide insight to where to go and what to do.
Endwalker
Shocker. Genuinely though I am having a great time with this expansion so far.
