DRUG RELATED CHARGES IN HAWKESBURY

Three people are facing charges following a drug investigation in Hawkesbury. On Friday, February 27, members of the Ontario Provincial Police East Region Community Street Crime Unit executed a search warrant at a residence on Portelance Avenue.
During the search, officers seized more than 10 grams of suspected cocaine, nearly two grams of suspected crack cocaine and close to 20 suspected hydromorphone tablets. Police also confiscated approximately $4,200 in cash along with items typically associated with drug trafficking.
A 37-year-old woman from Hawkesbury and a 43-year-old man from North Glengarry Township are each charged with possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000. The 43-year-old man is also charged with failing to comply with a probation order. Both were released from custody and are scheduled to appear in court in March. A 46-year-old man from The Nation Township is charged with failing to comply with an undertaking and was held for a bail hearing.

70 Year Old Pedestrian Killed, 3 Others Injured In Crash

A Police Service Spokesperson briefed the media on a horrific pedestrian collision yesterday afternoon. Two pedestrians were transported to hospital in critical condition.
A female pedestrian suffered non-life-threatening-injuries. The driver of the SUV suffered minor injuries and was transported to hospital in stable condition. Police continue their investigation.

Intruder Shot By Secret Service at Mar-A-Lago

Police and secret service agents have confirmed the death of a man in his early 20’s at President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Estate. They claim a suspect penetrated the second layer of security at the estate carrying a shot gun and a can of gasoline.
Two Secret Service Agents and local law enforcement officers confronted the man and ordered him to drop the items. They say he dropped the gas can but raised the shot gun to a firing position when he was engaged by the Secret Service and Police officers and killed. Police say the man was reported missing by his family a few days earlier but they continue to investigate his motive. The Trumps were in Washington at the time of the incident.

Highway 417 Closed Near Vankleek Hill Following Collision

Highway 417 is fully closed at County Road 10 in the Vankleek Hill area following a collision. Emergency crews are on scene, and the extent of any injuries has not yet been confirmed.
The closure is affecting traffic in both directions as police investigate the incident and work to clear the roadway. Drivers are being turned away from the area.

Ottawa Police Issue Canada-Wide Warrant in 2025 Homicide

(Ottawa) – The Ottawa Police Service Homicide Unit has charged a 19-year-old Ottawa man in connection with the October 18, 2025 homicide of 21-year-old Raphael Atende. The charge stems from an ongoing investigation into the killing, which occurred in Ottawa last fall.
Police have issued a Canada-wide warrant for Zakarye ABDI-JAMA, who is charged with second-degree murder. Investigators say his whereabouts are currently unknown. Authorities have not released a recent or clear photograph of ABDI-JAMA but say one will be shared through official channels if it becomes available.

Police Investigate Homicide on Rideau Street

911 calls flooded Emergency Services dispatch yesterday afternoon just before 5:30 with reports of a man being stabbed at 50 Rideau Street. Police and EMS crews arrived on the scene to find a male victim suffering multiple serious stab wounds.
Life saving measures were initiated immediately with the victim transported to hospital in life threatening condition. He was later pronounced deceased in hospital. A suspect has been taken in to custody in relation to the homicide but at this point police have not confirmed or denied laying charges.
Ottawa Senior Charged With Child Luring

Ottawa Police Service executed a search warrant on a residence in south Ottawa earlier this week in connection to a child luring investigation. 63 year old James Walker was arrested at the residence and charged with making sexually explicit materials available to a person under the age of 16 and communicating with a person under the age of 16. Police allege Walker has used several on line aliases and user names including:

Police believe there may be more victims and would like to hear from witnesses as the investigation continues
Woman Extricated After Head-On Collision

Police were called to a serious head on collision Wednesday afternoon around 3:30 on the 100 block of Cedarview Road near the Bruce Pit. Police immediately requested Ottawa Fire Service to extricate an older female driver trapped in an SUV.
Fire fighters arrived and secured the vehicle also managing a fluid spill while a crew worked on stabilizing and extricating the driver. The team removed the drivers door, then removed the driver, placing her on a spinal board for transport to hospital. EMS crews reported the driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was in stable condition.

Police Lay Additional Charges Including Voyeurism Against an Ottawa Man

Police have added 13 more charges against an Ottawa man originally charged criminal harassment. 46 year old John Violette now faces additional charges including voyeurism, distribution of voyeuristic material, and four offences related to child sexual abuse and exploitation material.
Violette was originally charged last year when posters were displayed in Bells Corners targeting a female victim. Police say he took images mainly of women’s clothed buttocks in public places including beaches, shopping malls, public transit and restaurants. Police say Violette distributed some images to an associate in Waterloo who has also been charged in this case.
Police Shut Down After-Hours Establishment on Rideau

A five month long investigation by the Ottawa Police Service into an unlicenced after-hours club on Rideau Street culminated in charges laid against 10 individuals and 2 corporations.
Police acted on complaints from the public and teamed up with Ottawa Fire, The AGCO and By-Law Enforcement to execute search warrants during the investigation. 11 further suspects have yet to be identified. In total eighty five Provincial Offence Notices and four Criminal Code charges have been laid with more charges pending
Another Conservative MP Crosses the Floor to The Liberals

Prime Minister Mark Carney announced former Conservative MP Matt Jeneroux has crossed the floor to join the Liberals. Jeneroux, who previously represented Edmonton Riverbend, said he made the decision after discussions with his family and will now serve as a special advisor on economic and security partnerships in Carney’s government.
His move gives the Liberals 169 seats in the House of Commons, just 3 seats shy of a majority, prompting criticism from Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre, who called the switch a betrayal of voters claiming Carney was completing back room deals to cease power.

Residential Fire Claims Two Homes on Pelham Crescent

Emergency Services were called to a residence in the southwest of Ottawa on the 100 block of Pelham Crescent yesterday afternoon after reports of thick black smoke coming from a home.
Ottawa fire crews arrived to find fire had already spread to the neighboring house and commenced battling the blaze and looking for residents inside the homes. Ottawa Fire found and rescued a pet dog and reunited him with his owners.
The fires took about an hour and a half to bring under control with no reported injuries. in total, four children and four adults have been displaced due to the fire.
Collision Leads to Serious Charges

Ottawa Police Service arrived on scene of a two car collision on Saturday and suspected one of the drivers of impaired operation. During their investigation on scene, police report the driver was asked for a breath sample when the became belligerent and allegedly began assaulting officers. The driver was arrested and eventually charged with:
- • Refusing to comply with an Approved Screening Device demand
- • Assaulting a peace officer (x2)
- • Obstructing police
The police officers involved did not require hospitalization

- • 3 counts of careless handling and storage of firearms
- • 3 counts of carrying concealed firearms
- • Possessing restricted or prohibited firearms without required licence and registration (three counts)

- • Being in a vehicle while knowingly in possession of firearms (three counts)

PM Carney Names Janice Charette CUSMA Negotiation Leader

Prime Minister Mark Carney has appointed former Privy Council Clerk Janice Charette as Canada’s Chief Trade Negotiator to the United States ahead of a scheduled review of the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement.
The Prime Minister’s Office says Charette will serve as a senior adviser on Canada-U.S. trade as tensions rise following renewed tariff threats from U.S. President Donald Trump and criticism of the existing deal. Her appointment comes amid political debate and uncertainty over the future of the North American trade pact.
NCC Closes Rideau Canal Skateway Due To Warm Weather

The National Capital Commission has closed the Rideau Canal Skateway Monday evening but this does not necessarily mean skating is finished for the entire season. The NCC said it is closing the canal ahead the warm weather conditions forecast for today and tomorrow with rain and freezing rain also possible.
The NCC said the conditions have negatively impacted the ice surface and the closure helps protect the Skateway and give crews the opportunity to smooth out the ice once conditions improve. The Skateway opened on News Years Eve this year and has been open for 42 days so far.
Police Investigate An Assault Downtown Over the Weekend

The Ottawa Police Service is continuing to investigate an assault that occurred over the weekend on the 100 block of Rideau Street. Emergency crews were called to the scene at approximately 11:30 p.m. Saturday, where they located one victim who was subsequently transported to hospital for treatment.
Police have not released details about the individual’s condition. Investigators say no suspect has been identified or taken into custody at this time, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Police Investigate West-End Home Invasion and Carjacking

Police are investigating a violent home invasion at a west-end rooming house involving four male suspects who forced their way inside and confronted multiple occupants. Investigators say the suspects were armed with firearms and falsely identified themselves as police during the incident.
Following the home invasion, a carjacking occurred at a separate location. The stolen vehicle remains outstanding, and police believe the residence may not have been the intended target. Authorities say there is no ongoing risk to the public at this time as the investigation continues.

Ottawa Man Charged in Homicide of Majed Al-Ar

(Ottawa) — A 22-year-old Ottawa man has been charged following a homicide investigation into the death of Majed Al-Ar. The Ottawa Police Service Homicide Unit says Hussein Kaddoura of Ottawa is facing charges of manslaughter, kidnapping, and possession of a restricted firearm. He is scheduled to appear in court this afternoon.
Police say a second man was also arrested in connection with the incident but has since been released pending further investigation. That individual sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the incident and was treated and released from hospital. No further details have been released at this time.

Ottawa OPP Long Weekend Enforcement

It was a busy start to the long weekend for members of the Ontario Provincial Police in Ottawa, with officers laying multiple charges during traffic enforcement efforts across the region.
Police say 11 drivers were charged with operating a vehicle without insurance, while an additional three drivers were charged with driving while under suspension. Officers continue to use Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) camera technology to help identify vehicles and drivers who are not legally permitted on the road.
The OPP reminds motorists that the penalties for these offences are significant. Upon conviction, the minimum fine for driving without insurance is $5,000, while driving under suspension carries a minimum fine of $2,000. Police say enforcement efforts will continue throughout the long weekend to improve road safety.

Charges Laid In Ottawa Homicide

Ottawa Council Approved New Paramedic Facility

Ottawa City Council has voted in favour of the construction of a new, seriously needed, paramedic facility. A public-private partnership will oversee the development of a new facility in the west end at 4061 Strandherd Drive near the Cosco.
$4 million has been budgeted for the early stages of the project but final costs have not yet been projected. A report sent to council says that the current headquarters is over capacity with 900 staff not able to operate safely and effectively in the current facility.
Adding that a work environment that is free of hazards and is accessible is a crucial component of business continuity, supporting staff health and safety, minimizing operational risk and supporting service delivery resilience.
More Details Have Emerged On The Hwy 17 Crash

Ontario Provincial Police have released more details on the fatal collision that caused the closure on highway 17 for several hours between Storyland Road and Bruce Street north of Renfrew.
Four young adults in one car were sent to hospital in non-life-threatening condition, while the 77 year old driver of the other vehicle was pronounced deceased on the scene. Police are asking for witnesses or motorists with dash cam video to come forward.

Flags Lowered to Half Mast In Solidarity With Tumbler Ridge

Flags across the country are being lowered to half mast to recognize the lives lost and in solidarity with the survivors in Tumbler Ridge BC. The RCMP have released more details and made some corrections regarding one of Canada’s worst mass murders.
Police have identified the shooter as 18 year old Jesse Van Rootselaar and they confirmed that Rootselaar killed their mother and step brother at home before taking a long gun and an altered hang gun to the school.
One educator and five students between the ages of 12 and 13 were found dead at the school. The weapons used were not registered to the shooter and they did not possess a valid firearms permit.
Ottawa Police Need Help Identifying B&E Suspects

Ottawa Police Service is seeking help from the public to identify break and enter suspects. Two recent breaks-ins are under investigation both taking place at commercial businesses on Merivale Road On February 3rd between 1 and 5:00 am.
Police say that one image clearly shows a suspect wearing bright yellow nail polish and a white touque with a black puffy jacket. Another image shows a suspect wearing a black coat, black hoodie and a white or gray scarf.
Report Shows Number of Stolen Vehicles Fell Sharply

A report by the Equite Association shows that the number of auto thefts in Canada fell year over year by 18% in 2025. That number is also down 33% from 2023 but the impact of thefts has been estimated at $900 million.
In 2024 The federal government launched a program targeting shipping ports and container storage facilities where many of the stolen vehicles leave the country for overseas criminal organizations.
Quebec saw the largest reduction in auto thefts — 25 per cent with the Port of Montreal being a major focal point for policing. Ontario dropped 22 per cent and Western Canada 11 per cent.

Carney Addresses Trump Threat To Cancel Opening Of Gordie Howe Bridge

Prime Minister Mark Carney said he spoke to U.S. President Donald Trump yesterday after another rambling Trump social media post where he threatened, among other things, to block the closing of a newly constructed bridge between the States and Ontario.
The Gordie Howe Bridge, spanning from Windsor to Detroit, was paid for by Canada and used Canadian and American workers and steel according to Carney, but Trump insisted the bridge would not open until Canada pays what it owes.
Carney said he corrected Trump’s assertion that Canada owns both sides of the bridge saying that the bridge is owned by the State of Michigan and Canada.
Snowfall Lead To Via Rail's Operational Pressure

Yesterday afternoon’s snow fall contributed to what Via Rail is calling “operational pressure” which lead to the cancellation of several trains in the Toronto-Ottawa-Montreal corridor.
Via Rail also said that increased ridership leading into the Family Day weekend, necessitated temporarily reducing service to keep additional trains in reserve to limit the risk of prolonged delays. The delays did not go unnoticed on Parliament Hill with the House of Commons Standing Committee on Transport.

Air Canada Suspends Flights To Cuba

Air Canada has announced the immediate suspension of all flights to Cuba saying that they are no longer able to purchase jet fuel on the island. Cuba relies on several types of aviation fuel from Venezuela including jet fuel and the U.S. attack on Venezuela and subsequent blockade has cut off supply to Cuba.
Air Canada will send empty aircraft and stage refueling stops to pick up some 3000 vacationers already in Cuba expecting a return flight home. West Jet will also likely announce a wind down of flights to Cuba as Havana Airport warns it will run out of fuel soon.
The government has updated its travel advisory for Cuba warning Canadians to exercise a high degree of caution in Cuba due to worsening shortages of electricity, fuel and basic necessities including food, water and medicine, which can also affect resorts.
Woman Killed in Head-On Crash On Franktown Road

Another serious crash on a rural road has claimed the life of a motorist. 911 calls came in on February the 6th just after 5 PM. Two vehicles crashed head-on at the 6000 block of Franktown Road between Munster and Richmond. Ottawa Fire Crews were called to the scene to perform an extrication with one driver trapped inside the wreck.
The jaws of life were employed to extricate the female and Fire crews began CPR on the scene. Ottawa EMS took over but the 63 year old was pronounced deceased on the scene. The other driver was transported to hospital in serious but stable condition.
Ottawa Snow Plow Driver Charged With Impaired Driving

A snow plow driver has been charged with impaired driving after a plow crashed into an Ottawa police cruiser that was stationary on Rideau Street early Saturday morning. Police allege the driver tested 4 times the legal limit for alcohol and he was charged accordingly.
No injuries were reported. This is the fifth crash in Ottawa involving a snow plow this year and the second time that serious charges were laid. In early January police charged a plow operator with driving without a valid licence while under permanent driving suspension.

Ottawa Fire Service received 911 calls Saturday evening around 8:00 for reports of a garage fire on the 100 block of Poole Creek Crescent. Fire Crews arrived within minutes and confirmed the active fire in the detached garage with no one expected inside.
They called for reinforcements and started a fast attack inside the building. The fire was deemed under control within 35 minutes and fire crews prevented the spread of the fire to the nearby home. No injuries were reported and fire investigators continue to investigate the cause of the blaze.

Fatal Collision on Hwy 7 West of Perth

Lanark County emergency Services were called to the scene of a serious collision on Highway 7 between highway 511 and Glen Tay Road on Saturday around 1:00 am. A van slid into the ditch and was being tended to by a tow truck when a serious secondary collision occurred.
An eastbound vehicle struck the tow truck and the driver of the van who was outside his vehicle at the time. The motorists was transported to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Six others involved int he collision were uninjured. OPP continue to investigate the collision and charges have not been laid at this time.
Paramedic Remains In Hospital With Critical Injuries After Crash

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help two first responders that were seriously injured after a crash with a transport truck On February the 2nd in Madoc at highway 7 and highway 62.
Mya Nichols and Zoraiz Rehman were driving an ambulance at the time of the collision. Rehman was released from hospital to recover from injuries including multiple spinal fractures and severe lacerations. He called 911 and began treatment on his colleague and others at the scene despite his injuries.
Nichols, who was driving the ambulance suffered multiple brain bleeds which doctors say have miraculously healed them selves. She remains unconscious in an ICU and doctors are still assessing the full extent of her injuries.

Impaired Snowplow Driver Arrested After Collision With Police Cruiser

A snowplow collided with an Ottawa Police Service cruiser on Rideau Street just after 4:00 a.m. this morning. No serious injuries were reported as a result of the crash, which occurred while officers were on patrol in the area.
Police say the snowplow driver, a 39-year-old man, was arrested at the scene for impaired driving after testing four times over the legal blood alcohol limit. The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be laid.
One Dead in Perth Crash

One person has died after being struck by a vehicle west of Perth early Saturday morning. Lanark County OPP say the collision happened just before 1 a.m. on February 7 on Highway 7, between Highway 511 and Glen Tay Road. Police, firefighters, and paramedics were called to the scene.
Investigators say a minivan had earlier left the roadway and became stuck in a snow-filled ditch. A flatbed tow truck was in the process of preparing to pull the vehicle out when an eastbound car struck both the minivan and the tow truck. The driver of the minivan, who was standing near his vehicle at the time, was also hit.
The man, a 44-year-old Ottawa resident, was taken to hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The tow truck operator and the six occupants of the car were not injured. The OPP East Region Traffic Incident Management Enforcement team, including collision reconstruction and technical investigators, is assisting with the investigation. Highway 7 remained closed overnight, and anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage is asked to contact Lanark County OPP and reference incident number E260168093.

A new Leger Poll suggests that up to 70% of Canadians support allowing more Chinese made electric vehicles into Canada. Prime Minister Mark Carney agreed to reduce tariffs on Chines imported EV’s from 100% to 6.1% allowing an annual maximum of 49 000 vehicles.

Highway 417 Closed Near Vankleek Hill Following Collision

Police have issued a Canada-wide warrant for Zakarye ABDI-JAMA, who is charged with second-degree murder. Investigators say his whereabouts are currently unknown. Authorities have not released a recent or clear photograph of ABDI-JAMA but say one will be shared through official channels if it becomes available.

Police Investigate Homicide on Rideau Street

911 calls flooded Emergency Services dispatch yesterday afternoon just before 5:30 with reports of a man being stabbed at 50 Rideau Street. Police and EMS crews arrived on the scene to find a male victim suffering multiple serious stab wounds.
Life saving measures were initiated immediately with the victim transported to hospital in life threatening condition. He was later pronounced deceased in hospital. A suspect has been taken in to custody in relation to the homicide but at this point police have not confirmed or denied laying charges.
Ottawa Senior Charged With Child Luring

Ottawa Police Service executed a search warrant on a residence in south Ottawa earlier this week in connection to a child luring investigation. 63 year old James Walker was arrested at the residence and charged with making sexually explicit materials available to a person under the age of 16 and communicating with a person under the age of 16. Police allege Walker has used several on line aliases and user names including:

Woman Extricated After Head-On Collision

Police were called to a serious head on collision Wednesday afternoon around 3:30 on the 100 block of Cedarview Road near the Bruce Pit. Police immediately requested Ottawa Fire Service to extricate an older female driver trapped in an SUV.
Fire fighters arrived and secured the vehicle also managing a fluid spill while a crew worked on stabilizing and extricating the driver. The team removed the drivers door, then removed the driver, placing her on a spinal board for transport to hospital. EMS crews reported the driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was in stable condition.

Police Lay Additional Charges Including Voyeurism Against an Ottawa Man

Police have added 13 more charges against an Ottawa man originally charged criminal harassment. 46 year old John Violette now faces additional charges including voyeurism, distribution of voyeuristic material, and four offences related to child sexual abuse and exploitation material.
Violette was originally charged last year when posters were displayed in Bells Corners targeting a female victim. Police say he took images mainly of women’s clothed buttocks in public places including beaches, shopping malls, public transit and restaurants. Police say Violette distributed some images to an associate in Waterloo who has also been charged in this case.

A five month long investigation by the Ottawa Police Service into an unlicenced after-hours club on Rideau Street culminated in charges laid against 10 individuals and 2 corporations.

Residential Fire Claims Two Homes on Pelham Crescent

Emergency Services were called to a residence in the southwest of Ottawa on the 100 block of Pelham Crescent yesterday afternoon after reports of thick black smoke coming from a home.
Ottawa fire crews arrived to find fire had already spread to the neighboring house and commenced battling the blaze and looking for residents inside the homes. Ottawa Fire found and rescued a pet dog and reunited him with his owners.
The fires took about an hour and a half to bring under control with no reported injuries. in total, four children and four adults have been displaced due to the fire.
Collision Leads to Serious Charges

Ottawa Police Service arrived on scene of a two car collision on Saturday and suspected one of the drivers of impaired operation. During their investigation on scene, police report the driver was asked for a breath sample when the became belligerent and allegedly began assaulting officers. The National Capital Commission has closed the Rideau Canal Skateway Monday evening but this does not necessarily mean skating is finished for the entire season. The NCC said it is closing the canal ahead the warm weather conditions forecast for today and tomorrow with rain and freezing rain also possible.

(Ottawa) — A 22-year-old Ottawa man has been charged following a homicide investigation into the death of Majed Al-Ar. The Ottawa Police Service Homicide Unit says Hussein Kaddoura of Ottawa is facing charges of manslaughter, kidnapping, and possession of a restricted firearm. He is scheduled to appear in court this afternoon.
Police say a second man was also arrested in connection with the incident but has since been released pending further investigation. It was a busy start to the long weekend for members of the Ontario Provincial Police in Ottawa, with officers laying multiple charges during traffic enforcement efforts across the region.
Police say 11 drivers were charged with operating a vehicle without insurance, while an additional three drivers were charged with driving while under suspension. Officers continue to use Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) camera technology to help identify vehicles and drivers who are not legally permitted on the road.
The OPP reminds motorists that the penalties for these offences are significant. Upon conviction, the minimum fine for driving without insurance is $5,000, while driving under suspension carries a minimum fine of $2,000. Police say enforcement efforts will continue throughout the long weekend to improve road safety.

Ottawa Council Approved New Paramedic Facility

Ottawa City Council has voted in favour of the construction of a new, seriously needed, paramedic facility. A public-private partnership will oversee the development of a new facility in the west end at 4061 Strandherd Drive near the Cosco.
$4 million has been budgeted for the early stages of the project but final costs have not yet been projected. A report sent to council says that the current headquarters is over capacity with 900 staff not able to operate safely and effectively in the current facility.
Adding that a work environment that is free of hazards and is accessible is a crucial component of business continuity, supporting staff health and safety, minimizing operational risk and supporting service delivery resilience.
More Details Have Emerged On The Hwy 17 Crash

Ontario Provincial Police have released more details on the fatal collision that caused the closure on highway 17 for several hours between Storyland Road and Bruce Street north of Renfrew.
Four young adults in one car were sent to hospital in non-life-threatening condition, while the 77 year old driver of the other vehicle was pronounced deceased on the scene. Police are asking for witnesses or motorists with dash cam video to come forward.

Flags Lowered to Half Mast In Solidarity With Tumbler Ridge

Flags across the country are being lowered to half mast to recognize the lives lost and in solidarity with the survivors in Tumbler Ridge BC. The RCMP have released more details and made some corrections regarding one of Canada’s worst mass murders.
Police have identified the shooter as 18 year old Jesse Van Rootselaar and they confirmed that Rootselaar killed their mother and step brother at home before taking a long gun and an altered hang gun to the school.
One educator and five students between the ages of 12 and 13 were found dead at the school. The weapons used were not registered to the shooter and they did not possess a valid firearms permit.
Ottawa Police Need Help Identifying B&E Suspects

Ottawa Police Service is seeking help from the public to identify break and enter suspects. Two recent breaks-ins are under investigation both taking place at commercial businesses on Merivale Road On February 3rd between 1 and 5:00 am.
Police say that one image clearly shows a suspect wearing bright yellow nail polish and a white touque with a black puffy jacket. Another image shows a suspect wearing a black coat, black hoodie and a white or gray scarf.
Report Shows Number of Stolen Vehicles Fell Sharply

A report by the Equite Association shows that the number of auto thefts in Canada fell year over year by 18% in 2025. That number is also down 33% from 2023 but the impact of thefts has been estimated at $900 million.
In 2024 The federal government launched a program targeting shipping ports and container storage facilities where many of the stolen vehicles leave the country for overseas criminal organizations.
Quebec saw the largest reduction in auto thefts — 25 per cent with the Port of Montreal being a major focal point for policing. Ontario dropped 22 per cent and Western Canada 11 per cent.

Carney Addresses Trump Threat To Cancel Opening Of Gordie Howe Bridge

Prime Minister Mark Carney said he spoke to U.S. President Donald Trump yesterday after another rambling Trump social media post where he threatened, among other things, to block the closing of a newly constructed bridge between the States and Ontario.
The Gordie Howe Bridge, spanning from Windsor to Detroit, was paid for by Canada and used Canadian and American workers and steel according to Carney, but Trump insisted the bridge would not open until Canada pays what it owes.
Carney said he corrected Trump’s assertion that Canada owns both sides of the bridge saying that the bridge is owned by the State of Michigan and Canada.
Snowfall Lead To Via Rail's Operational Pressure

Yesterday afternoon’s snow fall contributed to what Via Rail is calling “operational pressure” which lead to the cancellation of several trains in the Toronto-Ottawa-Montreal corridor.
Via Rail also said that increased ridership leading into the Family Day weekend, necessitated temporarily reducing service to keep additional trains in reserve to limit the risk of prolonged delays. The delays did not go unnoticed on Parliament Hill with the House of Commons Standing Committee on Transport.

Air Canada Suspends Flights To Cuba

Air Canada has announced the immediate suspension of all flights to Cuba saying that they are no longer able to purchase jet fuel on the island. Cuba relies on several types of aviation fuel from Venezuela including jet fuel and the U.S. attack on Venezuela and subsequent blockade has cut off supply to Cuba.
Air Canada will send empty aircraft and stage refueling stops to pick up some 3000 vacationers already in Cuba expecting a return flight home. West Jet will also likely announce a wind down of flights to Cuba as Havana Airport warns it will run out of fuel soon.
The government has updated its travel advisory for Cuba warning Canadians to exercise a high degree of caution in Cuba due to worsening shortages of electricity, fuel and basic necessities including food, water and medicine, which can also affect resorts.
Woman Killed in Head-On Crash On Franktown Road

Another serious crash on a rural road has claimed the life of a motorist. 911 calls came in on February the 6th just after 5 PM. Two vehicles crashed head-on at the 6000 block of Franktown Road between Munster and Richmond. Ottawa Fire Crews were called to the scene to perform an extrication with one driver trapped inside the wreck.
The jaws of life were employed to extricate the female and Fire crews began CPR on the scene. Ottawa EMS took over but the 63 year old was pronounced deceased on the scene. The other driver was transported to hospital in serious but stable condition.
Ottawa Snow Plow Driver Charged With Impaired Driving

A snow plow driver has been charged with impaired driving after a plow crashed into an Ottawa police cruiser that was stationary on Rideau Street early Saturday morning. Police allege the driver tested 4 times the legal limit for alcohol and he was charged accordingly.
No injuries were reported. This is the fifth crash in Ottawa involving a snow plow this year and the second time that serious charges were laid. In early January police charged a plow operator with driving without a valid licence while under permanent driving suspension.

Fatal Collision on Hwy 7 West of Perth

Lanark County emergency Services were called to the scene of a serious collision on Highway 7 between highway 511 and Glen Tay Road on Saturday around 1:00 am. A van slid into the ditch and was being tended to by a tow truck when a serious secondary collision occurred.
An eastbound vehicle struck the tow truck and the driver of the van who was outside his vehicle at the time. The motorists was transported to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Six others involved int he collision were uninjured. OPP continue to investigate the collision and charges have not been laid at this time.
Paramedic Remains In Hospital With Critical Injuries After Crash

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help two first responders that were seriously injured after a crash with a transport truck On February the 2nd in Madoc at highway 7 and highway 62.
Mya Nichols and Zoraiz Rehman were driving an ambulance at the time of the collision. Rehman was released from hospital to recover from injuries including multiple spinal fractures and severe lacerations. He called 911 and began treatment on his colleague and others at the scene despite his injuries.
Nichols, who was driving the ambulance suffered multiple brain bleeds which doctors say have miraculously healed them selves. She remains unconscious in an ICU and doctors are still assessing the full extent of her injuries.

Impaired Snowplow Driver Arrested After Collision With Police Cruiser

A snowplow collided with an Ottawa Police Service cruiser on Rideau Street just after 4:00 a.m. this morning. No serious injuries were reported as a result of the crash, which occurred while officers were on patrol in the area.
Police say the snowplow driver, a 39-year-old man, was arrested at the scene for impaired driving after testing four times over the legal blood alcohol limit. The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be laid.
One Dead in Perth Crash

One person has died after being struck by a vehicle west of Perth early Saturday morning. Lanark County OPP say the collision happened just before 1 a.m. on February 7 on Highway 7, between Highway 511 and Glen Tay Road. Police, firefighters, and paramedics were called to the scene.
Investigators say a minivan had earlier left the roadway and became stuck in a snow-filled ditch. A flatbed tow truck was in the process of preparing to pull the vehicle out when an eastbound car struck both the minivan and the tow truck. The driver of the minivan, who was standing near his vehicle at the time, was also hit.
The man, a 44-year-old Ottawa resident, was taken to hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The tow truck operator and the six occupants of the car were not injured. The OPP East Region Traffic Incident Management Enforcement team, including collision reconstruction and technical investigators, is assisting with the investigation. Highway 7 remained closed overnight, and anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage is asked to contact Lanark County OPP and reference incident number E260168093.

Residential Fire Claims Two Homes on Pelham Crescent

Emergency Services were called to a residence in the southwest of Ottawa on the 100 block of Pelham Crescent yesterday afternoon after reports of thick black smoke coming from a home.
Ottawa fire crews arrived to find fire had already spread to the neighboring house and commenced battling the blaze and looking for residents inside the homes. Ottawa Fire found and rescued a pet dog and reunited him with his owners.
The fires took about an hour and a half to bring under control with no reported injuries. in total, four children and four adults have been displaced due to the fire.
Collision Leads to Serious Charges

Ottawa Police Service arrived on scene of a two car collision on Saturday and suspected one of the drivers of impaired operation. During their investigation on scene, police report the driver was asked for a breath sample when the became belligerent and allegedly began assaulting officers. The driver was arrested and eventually charged with:

- • Assaulting a peace officer (x2)
- • Obstructing police
The police officers involved did not require hospitalization

NCC Closes Rideau Canal Skateway Due To Warm Weather

The National Capital Commission has closed the Rideau Canal Skateway Monday evening but this does not necessarily mean skating is finished for the entire season. The NCC said it is closing the canal ahead the warm weather conditions forecast for today and tomorrow with rain and freezing rain also possible.
The NCC said the conditions have negatively impacted the ice surface and the closure helps protect the Skateway and give crews the opportunity to smooth out the ice once conditions improve. The Skateway opened on News Years Eve this year and has been open for 42 days so far.
Police Investigate An Assault Downtown Over the Weekend

The Ottawa Police Service is continuing to investigate an assault that occurred over the weekend on the 100 block of Rideau Street. Emergency crews were called to the scene at approximately 11:30 p.m. Saturday, where they located one victim who was subsequently transported to hospital for treatment.
Police have not released details about the individual’s condition. Investigators say no suspect has been identified or taken into custody at this time, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Police Investigate West-End Home Invasion and Carjacking

Police are investigating a violent home invasion at a west-end rooming house involving four male suspects who forced their way inside and confronted multiple occupants. Investigators say the suspects were armed with firearms and falsely identified themselves as police during the incident.
Following the home invasion, a carjacking occurred at a separate location. The stolen vehicle remains outstanding, and police believe the residence may not have been the intended target. Authorities say there is no ongoing risk to the public at this time as the investigation continues.

Ottawa Man Charged in Homicide of Majed Al-Ar

(Ottawa) — A 22-year-old Ottawa man has been charged following a homicide investigation into the death of Majed Al-Ar. The Ottawa Police Service Homicide Unit says Hussein Kaddoura of Ottawa is facing charges of manslaughter, kidnapping, and possession of a restricted firearm. He is scheduled to appear in court this afternoon.
Police say a second man was also arrested in connection with the incident but has since been released pending further investigation. That individual sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the incident and was treated and released from hospital. No further details have been released at this time.

Ottawa OPP Long Weekend Enforcement

It was a busy start to the long weekend for members of the Ontario Provincial Police in Ottawa, with officers laying multiple charges during traffic enforcement efforts across the region.
Police say 11 drivers were charged with operating a vehicle without insurance, while an additional three drivers were charged with driving while under suspension. Officers continue to use Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) camera technology to help identify vehicles and drivers who are not legally permitted on the road.
The OPP reminds motorists that the penalties for these offences are significant. Upon conviction, the minimum fine for driving without insurance is $5,000, while driving under suspension carries a minimum fine of $2,000. Police say enforcement efforts will continue throughout the long weekend to improve road safety.

Ottawa Council Approved New Paramedic Facility

Ottawa City Council has voted in favour of the construction of a new, seriously needed, paramedic facility. A public-private partnership will oversee the development of a new facility in the west end at 4061 Strandherd Drive near the Cosco.
$4 million has been budgeted for the early stages of the project but final costs have not yet been projected. A report sent to council says that the current headquarters is over capacity with 900 staff not able to operate safely and effectively in the current facility.
Adding that a work environment that is free of hazards and is accessible is a crucial component of business continuity, supporting staff health and safety, minimizing operational risk and supporting service delivery resilience.
More Details Have Emerged On The Hwy 17 Crash

Ontario Provincial Police have released more details on the fatal collision that caused the closure on highway 17 for several hours between Storyland Road and Bruce Street north of Renfrew.
Four young adults in one car were sent to hospital in non-life-threatening condition, while the 77 year old driver of the other vehicle was pronounced deceased on the scene. Police are asking for witnesses or motorists with dash cam video to come forward.

Flags Lowered to Half Mast In Solidarity With Tumbler Ridge

Flags across the country are being lowered to half mast to recognize the lives lost and in solidarity with the survivors in Tumbler Ridge BC. The RCMP have released more details and made some corrections regarding one of Canada’s worst mass murders.
Police have identified the shooter as 18 year old Jesse Van Rootselaar and they confirmed that Rootselaar killed their mother and step brother at home before taking a long gun and an altered hang gun to the school.
One educator and five students between the ages of 12 and 13 were found dead at the school. The weapons used were not registered to the shooter and they did not possess a valid firearms permit.
Ottawa Police Need Help Identifying B&E Suspects

Ottawa Police Service is seeking help from the public to identify break and enter suspects. Two recent breaks-ins are under investigation both taking place at commercial businesses on Merivale Road On February 3rd between 1 and 5:00 am.
Police say that one image clearly shows a suspect wearing bright yellow nail polish and a white touque with a black puffy jacket. Another image shows a suspect wearing a black coat, black hoodie and a white or gray scarf.
Report Shows Number of Stolen Vehicles Fell Sharply

A report by the Equite Association shows that the number of auto thefts in Canada fell year over year by 18% in 2025. That number is also down 33% from 2023 but the impact of thefts has been estimated at $900 million.
In 2024 The federal government launched a program targeting shipping ports and container storage facilities where many of the stolen vehicles leave the country for overseas criminal organizations.
Quebec saw the largest reduction in auto thefts — 25 per cent with the Port of Montreal being a major focal point for policing. Ontario dropped 22 per cent and Western Canada 11 per cent.

Carney Addresses Trump Threat To Cancel Opening Of Gordie Howe Bridge

Prime Minister Mark Carney said he spoke to U.S. President Donald Trump yesterday after another rambling Trump social media post where he threatened, among other things, to block the closing of a newly constructed bridge between the States and Ontario.
The Gordie Howe Bridge, spanning from Windsor to Detroit, was paid for by Canada and used Canadian and American workers and steel according to Carney, but Trump insisted the bridge would not open until Canada pays what it owes.
Carney said he corrected Trump’s assertion that Canada owns both sides of the bridge saying that the bridge is owned by the State of Michigan and Canada.
Snowfall Lead To Via Rail's Operational Pressure

Yesterday afternoon’s snow fall contributed to what Via Rail is calling “operational pressure” which lead to the cancellation of several trains in the Toronto-Ottawa-Montreal corridor.
Via Rail also said that increased ridership leading into the Family Day weekend, necessitated temporarily reducing service to keep additional trains in reserve to limit the risk of prolonged delays. The delays did not go unnoticed on Parliament Hill with the House of Commons Standing Committee on Transport.

Air Canada Suspends Flights To Cuba

Air Canada has announced the immediate suspension of all flights to Cuba saying that they are no longer able to purchase jet fuel on the island. Cuba relies on several types of aviation fuel from Venezuela including jet fuel and the U.S. attack on Venezuela and subsequent blockade has cut off supply to Cuba.
Air Canada will send empty aircraft and stage refueling stops to pick up some 3000 vacationers already in Cuba expecting a return flight home. West Jet will also likely announce a wind down of flights to Cuba as Havana Airport warns it will run out of fuel soon.
The government has updated its travel advisory for Cuba warning Canadians to exercise a high degree of caution in Cuba due to worsening shortages of electricity, fuel and basic necessities including food, water and medicine, which can also affect resorts.
Woman Killed in Head-On Crash On Franktown Road

Another serious crash on a rural road has claimed the life of a motorist. 911 calls came in on February the 6th just after 5 PM. Two vehicles crashed head-on at the 6000 block of Franktown Road between Munster and Richmond. Ottawa Fire Crews were called to the scene to perform an extrication with one driver trapped inside the wreck.
The jaws of life were employed to extricate the female and Fire crews began CPR on the scene. Ottawa EMS took over but the 63 year old was pronounced deceased on the scene. The other driver was transported to hospital in serious but stable condition.
Ottawa Snow Plow Driver Charged With Impaired Driving

A snow plow driver has been charged with impaired driving after a plow crashed into an Ottawa police cruiser that was stationary on Rideau Street early Saturday morning. Police allege the driver tested 4 times the legal limit for alcohol and he was charged accordingly.
No injuries were reported. This is the fifth crash in Ottawa involving a snow plow this year and the second time that serious charges were laid. In early January police charged a plow operator with driving without a valid licence while under permanent driving suspension.

Fatal Collision on Hwy 7 West of Perth

Lanark County emergency Services were called to the scene of a serious collision on Highway 7 between highway 511 and Glen Tay Road on Saturday around 1:00 am. A van slid into the ditch and was being tended to by a tow truck when a serious secondary collision occurred.
An eastbound vehicle struck the tow truck and the driver of the van who was outside his vehicle at the time. The motorists was transported to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Six others involved int he collision were uninjured. OPP continue to investigate the collision and charges have not been laid at this time.
Paramedic Remains In Hospital With Critical Injuries After Crash

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help two first responders that were seriously injured after a crash with a transport truck On February the 2nd in Madoc at highway 7 and highway 62.
Mya Nichols and Zoraiz Rehman were driving an ambulance at the time of the collision. Rehman was released from hospital to recover from injuries including multiple spinal fractures and severe lacerations. He called 911 and began treatment on his colleague and others at the scene despite his injuries.
Nichols, who was driving the ambulance suffered multiple brain bleeds which doctors say have miraculously healed them selves. She remains unconscious in an ICU and doctors are still assessing the full extent of her injuries.

Impaired Snowplow Driver Arrested After Collision With Police Cruiser

A snowplow collided with an Ottawa Police Service cruiser on Rideau Street just after 4:00 a.m. this morning. No serious injuries were reported as a result of the crash, which occurred while officers were on patrol in the area.
Police say the snowplow driver, a 39-year-old man, was arrested at the scene for impaired driving after testing four times over the legal blood alcohol limit. The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be laid.

One Dead in Perth Crash
